Sunday 14 April, 1899 IVMildly exciting day. I found myself surveying Wilmot’s End, simply to better gather my bearings of the place, as I have only lived here for three months and it is still unfamiliar to me. I wandered into St. Fiacre’s, and admired the stained-glass windows and the tolling bells briefly. Then, after heading into Ladybones’ Road, I was unceremoniously tangled up with the issues of a young aristocrat, and her father wishing to know where she was spending her inheritance. I did not particularly expect myself to be wandering through the spider-pits with her tossing echoes at anyone who would take them, or to be settled in Dante’s Grill and watching her jest and cavort with devils, but I was paid as agreed and appropriately for my detective work. I wonder where the moon-pearls come from, at times. Moon-oysters?

Marie is shaking to hold Dionysia’s hand back, threatening her neck lightly with the gun barrel, and Dionysia is hurrying to get a better hold on the gun.“I’m not letting you have this,” bites out Dionysia.“I have everything," Marie replies.Dionysia tries to open her mouth, but lets Marie’s strength twist her gun toward the floor and utilises the recoil to push her hand back. It doesn’t do much for their stalemate. They’re breathing heavily like animals, like sweaty brutish animals, and neither of them can think of anything else besides the singular thought one of us is getting buried tonight and it won’t be me.
